Digital Foundry Criticizes Switch 2's LCD Display Response Time

Recent tests and analysis from Digital Foundry reveal that the Switch 2's LCD screen has an exceptionally slow response time, making it one of the slowest modern LCDs on the market. According to expert John Linneman, the response time is about three times slower than the original Steam Deck's LCD and even worse in some aspects than the 2017 Switch LCD.

While many users report that the screen appears satisfactory in everyday use, technical measurements highlight significant motion blurring and ghosting effects, especially during fast-paced gaming. Despite digital diagnostics pointing to these flaws, numerous owners claim that the visual impact is negligible in real-world gameplay, with some even preferring the slower response for certain low-frame-rate titles.

This discrepancy raises debates about the actual user experience versus technical metrics, with many arguing that the response time issues are overrated or only noticeable under specific conditions.

Nonetheless, the critique underscores Nintendo's choice to opt for a low-cost, energy-efficient LCD panel over higher-quality alternatives like OLED, which would elevate cost but also display performance. The community remains divided: some appreciate the large, vibrant screen and performance improvements, while others express disappointment over the response time and motion blurring, hoping for future hardware revisions or OLED variants.
