FTC Refunds Over $126 Million to Fortnite Players Charged for Unwanted Purchases

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is issuing more than $126 million in refunds to Fortnite players who were billed for unwanted items during gameplay. This follows the agency’s recent settlement with Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, requiring the company to pay $245 million for deceptive billing practices designed to trick users into making unintended purchases.
Eligible consumers who have not previously submitted a claim now have until July 9, 2025, to do so at www.ftc.gov/fortnite. The FTC has already distributed over $72 million in the first round of refunds in December 2024, with nearly 630,000 payments made. The current round will see nearly 970,000 checks and PayPal payments issued on June 25 and 26, to consumers who filed valid claims. Consumers can choose their preferred payment method when submitting their claim.
Checks should be cashed within 90 days, and PayPal payments should be redeemed within 30 days. For questions, consumers can contact the refund administrator at 1-833-915-0880 or via email at [email protected]. The FTC emphasizes that it never requires payment or account information to process refunds. This action is part of the FTC’s broader effort to protect consumers and promote fair competition. The agency’s interactive dashboards provide detailed data on refunds distributed across the U.S., with total refunds reaching nearly $200 million related to Epic’s practices. Consumers are advised to stay vigilant against scams and false claims.
