HDMI 2.2 Specification Supports 16K Video at 60Hz

Hardware manufacturers can now begin developing HDMI 2.2-compatible devices and cables capable of handling bandwidths up to 96Gbps.
This new standard, announced by the HDMI Forum, allows for higher resolutions such as 16K at 60Hz, 8K at 240Hz, and even 4K at 240Hz with uncompressed 10-bit and 12-bit color depths.
Cables supporting HDMI 2.2 will feature an Ultra96 label for easy identification, and certified Ultra96 cables will guarantee support for the increased bandwidth.
While native 16K TVs are not yet available and widespread adoption will take time, this update aims to future-proof HDMI technology and simplify consumer choices with clearer cable naming conventions.
Additionally, HDMI 2.2 introduces the Latency Indication Protocol (LIP) to improve audio and video sync especially in complex setups.
Existing HDMI cables may still work for some features, but to fully utilize the new capabilities, upgrading to Ultra96 cables will be necessary.
