UK to Acquire 12 Nuclear-Capable F-35A Jets from the US and Join NATO
The United Kingdom announced it will purchase 12 F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons from the United States. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will reveal this decision during the upcoming NATO summit, emphasizing the importance of collective defense and calling on allies to enhance support.

The F-35A, produced primarily by Lockheed Martin, is among the most advanced and costly jets globally. This move also increases the UK's nuclear security, integrating into NATO's dual-capable aircraft nuclear mission beyond its existing submarine-based deterrent.

The British government states that this purchase will preserve 20,000 jobs linked to the F-35 program in the UK and support the extensive supply chain within the country. Starmer highlighted the need for increased defense investment amid geopolitical uncertainties, reaffirming the UK's strong commitment to NATO and collective security.
